Overview
In 2015, the UN agreed that by 2030 we would implement 17 Sustainable Development Goals to address the challenges faced by People and the Planet, promoting Peace and Prosperity based on a new framework of Partnerships between International Organizations, States, the Private Sector, and Third Sector Organizations. In the 2023 assessment of our progress, we found that only 15% of the goals were aligned with the collective ambition we had committed to. While 48% of the goals were delayed, the remaining 37% showed signs of stagnation or even regression. This lecture aims to discuss the reasons that may explain these outcomes, with a particular focus on the limitations of Democratic States in designing and implementing their public policies.
