Both the notion of the West and the East are political-cultural concepts shaped by a complex history that is important to understand. Only then can we grasp the paradoxical fact that, while the West has never been the target of such widespread and varied criticism, it simultaneously remains— as migratory flows suggest— a model that continues to attract much of the world’s population. What are these paradoxes that fuel the West/East tension? This calls for a new geopolitical perspective in light of the ongoing transformations in the world.
